For this post about feminine and edgy style I collaborated with Cynthia Rowley to celebrate her sophisticated, feminine and slightly whimsical dresses. Did you know that before becoming a famous designer Cynthia Rowley wanted to be a painter? For some reason I always remember this when I look at prints and colors of the dresses…
I must admit – I am not a very “girly girl” in many ways, and I don’t think my style can be described as very feminine. I do buy and wear feminine pieces now and then, but when I do, I usually style them with purposefully “mismatching” accessories to divert the outfit toward a more edgy style that I love so much. For example, wearing a very feminine dress with a pair of classic pumps would not be me.
Today I wanted to show you guys my interpretation of “how to dress feminine with an edge” and how to style a very feminine dress differently.
Honestly, I was madly in love with quite a few of the dresses from Cynthia Rowley’s SS16 Lookbook but I picked this slate blue beauty for its unusual cut and very feminine details such as shoulder ties (love, love, love)
Probably to your big surprise, I styled Cynthia Rowley Slate Blue dress with a coated cotton military jacket (similar here). At first you would think that it is impossible to make the two work together – but actually the combination looks very nice as the military jacket happens to have a very feminine accent – a large pleat on the back of the jacket gives it a slightly romantic babydoll shape. I love playing with fashion and find that often time contrasts and juxtapositions are crucial to make an outfit work and achieve that edgy style with a touch of femininity.
Now, let’s talk #shoes! I chose a pair of my favorite Ancient Greek Sandals to wear with Cynthia Rowley dress. I love these hand-made leather shoes because they do go with everything and have this fantastic ability of tuning down and giving edge to any outfit. Interestingly, the more worn these sandals become the more I love them. Their leather ages really well.
I don’t know if I told you but I like vintage bags – this Deauville bag by Louis Vuitton is one of my favorites that I often prefer over new marketed styles. It has a crazy amount of convenient pockets- both inside and outside and it is a great bag to invest in if you are a working girl who runs around with a computer and 22 can’t-live-without things in your handbag.

Looks great on you! Love the feminine touches of this dress, XO
Really cool styling. I also love feminine pieces but don’t feel myself in a full ‘girly’ look. This is a nice alternative.
